Grassroots Content Management
Problem: Dozens of nationwide grassroots volunteers needing a quick and very easy way to keep web pages up to date with critical news and event information, in a distributed user/group level permission level.
Solution: CMS with custom email marketing service integration module.
Email Hosting for 100 volunteers
Problem: Unlike most organizations that use mailbox accounts for staff, they prefer using email forwarders that forward emails externally to, for example, a @yahoo.com recipient address. This keeps volunteers from sending email from @marriageequality.org yet provides their ability to receive and have an official identity. As the organization grew to around 100 volunteers with multi-tiered mass external forwarding, their previous email hosting solution started to complain about (1) too many email hops, and (2) SPAM being forwarded due to the exposure of the addresses being forwarded.
Solution: SliceHost virtual dedicated server running the free WebMin + VirtualMin control panels was chosen as a highly cost effective and powerful platform. It offers unlimited email sending capabilities, including the needed rDNS parameter, as well as a friendly and customizable administrator user interface. We also installed MailScanner as a wrapper to the MTA to pre-scan email being forwarded to external locations for virus and SPAM content. This avoids Marriage Equality USA being penalized as a SPAM relay.
